The Undercover Policing Inquiry has announced its intention to commence its Tranche 2 evidence hearings from Monday 1 July 2024. The hearings will be held in person and the opening statements streamed online. Further details regarding the location and the programme for hearings will be shared shortly.

In these hearings, the Inquiry will hear from undercover officers, non-state witnesses and those in the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) supervisory chain of command between approximately 1983 to 1992. Evidence will also be admitted relating to those Tranche 1 era officers who were transferred to Tranche 2.

The Inquiry’s first sets of evidence hearings covered ‘Tranche 1: Special Demonstration Squad officers and managers and those affected by deployments (1968–1982)’ and were heard across 29 days of evidential hearings in three phases between November 2020, April-May 2021 and May 2022. The Inquiry also heard additional evidence during closed evidential hearings.
