Paul Bishop will join the Undercover Policing Inquiry on 1 September as the new Solicitor to the Inquiry. He replaces Piers Doggart, who has returned to the Government Legal Department after five years at the Inquiry.

Paul was legal adviser to the Intelligence and Security Committee 2016-2020, conducting oversight of the UK intelligence community and leading in particular the Inquiry into detainee mistreatment. Prior to that he represented HMG as a core participant in the Litvinenko Inquiry and in wide-ranging national security and counter-terrorism litigation. Before becoming a barrister Paul worked in a number of defence, counter-terrorism and humanitarian roles.

The new Solicitor was appointed following a recruitment process by the Home Office under fair and open competition rules.
